The purpose of this phase of the project has two objectives:

  1. To identify design patterns and create and test these key visual elements of the comic before going into production.
  2. Analyse the script to more clearly understand plot, character motivation, rhythm, pacing and key moments.

The outcome of the Design phase is to have all of the design elements completed in enough detail that production can start with confidence. This understanding will also inform the project plan and timeline.

It includes five sections:

  1. Page layout
  2. Visual design panels
  3. Visual design full bleed pages
  4. Mock-up

Design backlog

This is the backlog produced at the start of the design phase. The purpose of showing it here is to describe the scope and extent of the work.
