A change in direction
As part of my Assignment 2 conclusion I’d made the decision to pivot away from the Oli project and move onto something different. This was because any meaningful further progression beyond the design mock-up needed a script rewrite and this would not happen in the required time.
This was a big decision but completely aligned with my personal manifesto that states: AIM FOR THE MINIMUM. Stop doing useless work. Make time for excellence in what matters most
At about the same time my elderly father had a fall, broke his hip and went through a traumatic couple of months being pushed through the health and social care services. For me, experiencing first hand the overstretched, overburdened and broken health care system was shocking, and something I wanted to talk about.
This was to become the subject of my new project.
The challenges
Time was short. My original project had a six-month timeline, and half of that had gone at the point I changed direction. My objective was to scale back the amount of work but maintain the ambition to deliver a substantial project that would showcase my skills as an illustrator.
