Assignment 5 – Exploring printmaking and combination print techniques

The work in Assignment 5 consists of a selection of work from the three projects that made up the coursework for PART 5 Exploring printmaking and combination print techniques.

The work has been selected based on specific criteria. The work, along with the selection criteria are listed below in a logical order.

There is a new section here that was created in response to PART 3 tutor feedback that includes my responses to feedback.

Task 1 (Project 13)

Present three combination mono and linoprints. These may be printed on different types of paper and in different colour schemes.

The first selection should include:

  • your three combination mono and linoprints

To support these prints you will have notes from your learning log.

Task 2 (Project 14)

Present a series of prints which incorporate chine collé techniques. They will include a variety of thin papers, metal foil, and other materials. The prints will be in different colour schemes and printed on different types of paper.

The second selection should include:

  • your chine collé print series (minimum of four prints)

To support your work you will have drawings and themes starting from original ideas and developed to the layout of your final prints.

Selection 1 – Blind man. Exploring quality and density of line. Drypoint and chine collé using Japanese paper

Selection 2 – Second version of Blind man print. This time combining drypoint with two types of tissue chine collé

Selection 3 – Third version of blind man print using Japanese paper for the chine collé

Selection 4 -Commuter development. Simple more uniform quality of line and black tissue paper for the chine collé

Selection 5 – Second version using a tissue paper across the whole of the image. This gives a nice retro feel to the print

Task 3 (Project 15)

Present your final print series. The prints should demonstrate your choice of technique and materials to express your creative ideas. They may include chine collé techniques, combination methods and a range of contrasting colours, expressive marks and papers. Include your supporting statement describing your choices and impressions of your series.

The third selection should include:

  • your print series of four contrasting prints
  • your supporting statement.
